Activity 03

Fish farming

FAMZ has a row of concrete fish ponds, each with its own valve. The first production cycle starts in the coming weeks: 1,000 African catfish (Clarias) fingerlings, raised with close monitoring of water, feed and growth.

What we do

Day to day on the farm

01

The facilities

A row of concrete ponds, filled and drained through valve-controlled PVC pipes, complemented by two 5 m³ above-ground tanks for the first cycle.

02

Measure first

Before stocking, the ponds are checked (useful depth, drainage, protection) and a Sikasso specialist is consulted on density, water and feed.

03

A pilot cycle

1,000 Clarias fingerlings, raised over 5 to 6 months; indicative target of about 640 kg of fish sold if survival reaches 80%.

04

Tilapia under study

Nile tilapia is being studied in parallel for a second cycle, based on data from the Sikasso market.

05

Respect for the environment

Drain water will follow a validated management plan: no direct discharge, no uncontrolled reuse on crops.

Next step · 2027-2028

From pilot to regular production

If the first cycle is successful, production will gradually increase to 1 t per year (Phase 1), then 20 t per year with the PAIZ hub.
